Barry College (British Forces)

Barry College’s International Centre for Aerospace Training (ICAT), in collaboration with the University of Glamorgan, can offer a Part-66 B Licence and BSc (Hons) Degree in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering, through part-time distance learning.

The course is designed for civilian aircraft mechanics and technicians, and HM Forces personnel with 1st and 2nd line experience and with less than 4 years of service remaining. This course is not suitable for those with limited aircraft maintenance experience. In order to gain a Part-66 B Licence you will need a minimum of 5 years experience within a Part-145 organisation, but this may be supplemented by a recognised apprenticeship or military service, at the discretion of EASA.

An EASA Part-66 B Licence is valid throughout the EU and in Joint Airworthiness Authorities (JAA) affiliated countries. The Part-66 Licence is also recognised by many other countries around the world. This will allow you to apply for a range of jobs directly with mainstream airlines such as Virgin and BA, or Part-145 Maintenance Organisations like BAMC and SR Technics. Currently, 30% of UK Licensed Engineers work overseas, where their experience and qualifications are in great demand.

With this groundbreaking programme you can study in your own time and at your own pace with ICAT’s innovative, interactive study material. Study modules will be provided in textbook and online formats. Using our material, you can study without sacrificing your work or family commitments in the style that suits you best.

To be flexible the course has been broken down into four (4) stages, with the Part-66 elements making up the first three (3) stages. You can advance through the stages at your own pace. In addition, there is no fixed start date to your studies, allowing you to join the programme at any time.

From the start, you will be put in touch with an allocated course tutor, as a dedicated point of contact, and subject specialists, as appropriate, to aid you with your studies. You will also have the option to visit our modern facilities for revision tutorials before sitting your Part-66 examinations. As ICAT has Part-147 Approval, examinations are set and marked in house.

Part-66 examinations have a 75% pass mark. The number of questions will vary from module to module, but each examination will consist of a multiple choice paper. Three modules will also have additional essay papers. Certificates will be issued on successful completion of each examination.

University Assignments have a pass mark of 40% and will be based around the module, but you will be expected to do research outside the syllabus in order to gain high marks, which will then determine the classification of your degree.
