UKAF compete in BUCS event Mister Hockey Hils remembered
THREE RAF orienteers formed part of the 16-man UK Armed Forces
(UKAF) Orienteering team who produced a fourth place finish at British
Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) Orienteering Championships
in Scotland.
The team which featured 11 Army and two Navy athletes, competed
in the individual event on the Saturday and the relay on the Sunday over
very challenging rough mountainous terrain course.
The UKAF team were up against stiff competition from the university
runners, many of whom are amongst the best cross-country runners
of their generation and with several orienteering regularly for Great
Britain.
The leading RAF orienteers on the individual competition were
siblings Sqn Ldr Rachel Sullivan from MOD (20th out of a field of 42)
and Sqn Ldr Geoff Ellis (57th out of 92), with Flt Lt Rich Crabb from
RAF Coningsby.
